GT Update

I wanted to take the opportunity to update you on what your child has been accomplishing in GT over the past several weeks.

Once a week, students have been engaged in “book clubs.”  Given a choice of six different books, the students were placed in groups of four or five based on the books they most wanted to read.  The groups plan how much of the book to read each week, journal about what they’ve read, and meet periodically to discuss their books.

Additionally, the GT students have been working on self-selected research projects.  They spent several weeks refining their topics, locating appropriate print and online sources, and taking notes over the information they have collected.  At this point, students are currently planning how to share the knowledge they’ve gained about their topic.  Groups and individuals have chosen various projects, such as writing a report, filming a play, designing a game, and creating an online slide presentation.  Over the next two weeks, our time in GT will be spent completing these projects.  Most of the materials your student will need are available at school; however, a few students may be asking to bring items from home to complete their projects.

The students have also created a project timeline that will allow them to complete the project in a timely and thorough manner.  Although most of the work for these projects should occur during GT time, some may wish to complete their work at home.  The final project is due on October 28th.

Please contact me if you have any questions!
